About Us

Our humble beginnings began back in 1835 with the Rev. Lucien Farnham being the first installed pastor of the Hampshire Colony Congregational Church - a union of Presbyterians and Congregationalists. Then in December of 1844, a group of church members voted to dissolve their connection with the Congregational Church and were then constituted into a Presbyterian Church. At that time, our church became the 38th church in the Schuyler Presbytery. By 1857, membership had reached 117 and was well established as the First Presbyterian Church in Princeton, Illinois.

And here we are today: A congregation with an active Session of Worship and Planning, Administration and Christian Growth and Nurture Teams. Our Presbyterian Women's Association is involved in church activities as well as activities in the community. Our Christian Education program has committed teachers and an engaging learning system. Our Sympathy, Witness and Service Team, the Deacons, provide sympathy, witness and service not only to our active congregation members but also to those who have limited mobility or illness and cannot participate in worship.
